Trekking in Bhutan Himalayas

Your Adventure Awaits

Don’t wait—start planning your dream journey to Bhutan today!

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, the Jomolhari Trek is a journey of discovery, blending natural beauty, cultural richness, and thrilling adventure. This moderate trek spans 7 to 12 days, depending on your chosen endpoint, and takes you through breathtaking landscapes, over high-altitude passes, and to the base of Mt. Jomolhari (7,326m). Starting from Gunitsawa village in Paro, the trek leads to Dodena in Thimphu, offering a tapestry of experiences that include encounters with yak herders, vibrant flora, and awe-inspiring vistas.

Your adventure begins in Paro, a valley steeped in history and natural beauty. After arriving at Paro airport, a warm Bhutanese welcome awaits you. Spend your first day exploring iconic landmarks like the Paro Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum, which offer glimpses into Bhutan’s fascinating heritage. The next day is reserved for the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang). This hike through pine-scented forests to a cliff-perched monastery is not only invigorating but also spiritually uplifting. The cascading waterfalls and tranquil atmosphere provide an unforgettable start to your adventure.

The trek itself kicks off on Day 3, where you’ll hike along the Paro River to the Thangthangkha campsite, offering glimpses of Mt. Jomolhari if the weather is clear. Each day brings a new surprise as you pass through yak herders’ winter homes and ancient ruins, culminating in a halt at the Mt. Jomolhari base camp for acclimatization. At an altitude of 4,080 meters, the serenity of this site and its proximity to the towering peak provide a truly humbling experience.

After a well-deserved rest day, the trail leads you to Lingzhi, crossing the Nyelila Pass (4,700m), where panoramic views of the Himalayas reward your effort. The journey continues to Shodu, the trek’s highest point, at Yelila Pass (4,820m), before descending along the Thimphu River to Barshong and Dolamkencho. Each leg of the journey unfolds new landscapes—from rugged mountain passes to lush forests—all teeming with Bhutan’s unique biodiversity.

On the final day of trekking, you’ll enter the Jigme Dorji National Park, a haven for nature lovers. Exiting at Dodena, you’ll be driven to your hotel in Thimphu for a well-earned hot shower and a comfortable night’s sleep. The following day is dedicated to exploring the capital city. Visit landmarks such as the towering Buddha Dordenma, the Motithang Takin Preserve, and the Tashichhodzong, which beautifully blends tradition with modernity.

The journey concludes with a drive back to Paro, where you bid farewell to Bhutan’s mesmerizing landscapes. The Jomolhari Trek is more than just a hike; it’s a cultural and spiritual odyssey that leaves an indelible mark on your soul. From the captivating allure of the Tiger’s Nest to the majestic peaks of Mt. Jomolhari, every step on this trail brings a deeper connection to Bhutan’s serene and untouched beauty.

Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or a curious traveler seeking an authentic Himalayan experience, the Jomolhari Trek promises a perfect blend of challenge, tranquility, and discovery. Pack your bags, lace up your hiking boots, and let the magic of Bhutan guide you on an unforgettable journey!
